BREAKING: IGP orders investigation into wrongful detention of Benue artist

The Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force, Solomon Arase has ordered an urgent investigation into the wrongful arrest and detention of one John Inalegwu Edward, also known as Inas, an upcoming music artist in Benue State.
Inas was reportedly arrested by police on his way back from a video shoot, but bailed two days after. He was however rearrested and charged with homicide, armed robbery and conspiracy when he returned for his phone and other belongings some days after his bail as requested by the police. Consequently, he, along with 3 other murder suspects appeared before a court in Makurdi yesterday and were asked to be remanded in prison custody till August 8th.
Confirming the IGP’s investigation request, the Benue Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Moses Yamu said the matter was reported to the Crimes Response Unit, CRU which alerted the IGP.
” The matter has been reported to force headquarters through the CRU. The IGP has ordered investigation into the case through the commissioner of police. The case would be revisited between tomorrow and next.” He said.
The PPRO also promised to inform the press of the outcome and next line of action, while assuring that the matter would be handled as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, fellow artists and fans alike have rallied around the matter to make sure that the innocent artist returns home safely.
